  • Luke Shaw makes first start in ten months
  • New signings Bailly and Mkhitaryan make first appearances

Manchester United got their pre-season off to a winning start with a 2-0 win over Wigan at the DW Stadium.

The win was secured thanks to second-half strikes from Will Keane and Andreas Pereira.

Jose Mourinho named a starting line-up that included Luke Shaw, Memphis, Carrick and FA Cup final hero Jesse Lingard.

Mourinho also handed first starts to new signings Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Bailly played 80 minutes while Mkhitaryan was withdrawn at half-time.

Both goalscorers were introduced at half-time along with Mata, Young and Valencia as Jose made seven changes.

Good to see Shaw back

After ten months it will take Shaw a while to get back to his best and will be looking to get more minutes under his belt against Dortmund on Friday.

The start of last season saw the start of a good relationship between Shaw and Memphis both on and off the pitch.

Many cited Memphis struggles last season due to the absence of Shaw so hopefully the return of the left-back will help the Dutchman rediscover his best form.

New boys impress

Both Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan made their first appearances for United and both impressed.

Bailly was named at centre-half, starting alongside Daley Blind and played much of the second-half alongside Phil Jones.

Though United didn’t have much defender to do. The Ivory Coast International looked comfortable defending and looked good in possession.

Mourinho started with a 4-2-3-1 formation and Mkhitaryan started as one of the three attackers behind lone striker James Wilson.

Though he spent most of the half in Number 10 position, he also popped up on the left and the right and missed a chance to score from a Lingard cross.
