- Manchester United and Villarreal reported reach agreement for transfer of Eric Bailly
- Bailly is a centre-back and a Ivory Coast International
Hot on the news that Manchester United are close to making Zlatan Ibrahimović a United player. We are now hearing they have reached an agreement with Villarreal for Eric Bailly.
if this transfer is happening it appears to be moving at a fast pace. News broke on Twitter in the last hour that United were in advanced talks for the Ivory Coast defender.
Now AS.com are reporting that Villarreal and United have reached an agreement for the player who started his career with Espanyol.
AS are reported that both clubs are close to finalising a deal that could be worth up 40 million euros. That mark is the defenders release clause but United won’t pay that fee outright and the deal will be made up with add-ons.
Manchester United aren’t the only English club expressing an interest. With neighbours City also said to be interested and recently crowned champions Leicester also looking at the defender.
Bailly joined Villarreal in January 2015 as a replacement for Arsenal bound Gabriel. Since then Bailly has made 35 appearances for Villarreal.
He already has 15 International cap to name and was part of the Ivory Coast squad that won the 2015 African Cup of Nations. He appeared in all six matches in that tournament.
Since joining Villarreal, Bailly has put in some strong dynamic performances for the yellow submarine but has been prone to lapses in concentration.
