Manchester United will discover their Champions League fate on Friday August 7. United are one of the top seeds for the of the final Champions League qualifying round.
Manchester United are top seeds for the draw, along with Valencia and Bayer Leverkusen. While Shakhtar Donetsk and Ajax will also be amongst the top seeds as long as they make through the third qualifying round.
United Can’t Face Any Of The Other Top Seeds
None of the top seeds can be drawn against each other, but United could be drawn against any of the unseeded teams. Who at the moment include Sporting Lisbon and Lazio, along with three others from the third qualifying round.
Should Shakhtar Donetsk and Ajax fail to make through the third qualifying round then Sporting Lisbon and Lazio with be elevated to a seed, with Sporting Lisbon being the first ones to move up to seeds if just one of them doesn’t make it through.
The play-off round will be split into two sections. A Champions Route (for league winners in some of Europe’s less dominant footballing nations). The other route, which United are in is the League Route (for clubs who finished second, third or fourth in the more prominent European leagues).
The draw on Friday will begin at 11.00 BST. Once United have discovered who their opponents will be. They will face a two-legged tie to gain qualification to the Champions League group stage. The first-leg will be played on 18/19 August with the second-leg on 25/26 August.
Should United be successful and qualify for the Champions League group stages, they will be among the seconds seeds, alongside Arsenal and Manchester United. The draw for the group stages will take place on August 27.
