  • Can Lindelof, Lukaku and Matic help United to Premier League success?

As the new season dawns, I will be looking at just what Manchester United can achieve under Jose Mourinho and just what the new signings will bring to the side.

The New Signings

Firstly, there was the addition of Swedish centre-half, Victor Lindelof.

The 23 year-old was linked to United in January and many believed that Mourinho had set his sights on Michael Keane instead. Hence the surprise when the club announced they had agreed terms for the transfer of the defender.

The Swede joined the Mourinho revolution for a fee of £30.7 million. Arguably a bargain in the current market if all goes to plan and he transitions into the side smoothly.

The second arrival was Romelu Lukaku from Everton for a slightly larger fee than the former, arriving for £75 million. The Belgian who scored 26 goals last season for 7th placed Everton.

He could be a massive coup for United with plenty Premier League experience and over 100 goals in his professional career at the age of 24.

Mourinho will be hoping Lukaku can hit the ground running early on in the premier league campaign especially with Pogba in the side who is close friends with the Belgian powerhouse.

The most recent signing, Nemanja Matic joins Manchester United from Premier League rivals Chelsea for a fee of £35 million plus £5 million add-ons.

The Serbian holding midfielder could prove to be very important to United this season in more ways than one.

To be more specific. Matic could be the player to unleash Pogba. The player who allows Pogba to roam around the pitch with more freedom and not have to worry as much about defensive duties.

Could Bailly And Lindelof Form A Partnership At The Back?

Manchester United had one of the most successful seasons out of all the teams in the Premier League.

Despite finishing sixth, they still managed to win the EFL Cup and the Europa League. But now Mourinho’s men must push on and look to challenge for the title and contend in the Champions League.

The additions so far have been pretty spot on and have filled in some of the blanks from last season.

Lindelof will hopefully partner Bailly in the centre of defence with Rojo also an excellent option too especially if Mourinho plans on using 3-5-2 this season.

Matic Gives United More Control In Midfield

Matic will also be crucial as for the most part of last season we depended on 35 year old Michael Carrick to run the midfield and play that holding midfield role most games.

United were a different side without him at times. Completely unable to dominate possession in the midfield. But now with the Serbian on board, Mourinho can really look to push on.

Lukaku Will Bring Goals

Finally, there’s Romelu Lukaku. Another player who could play a huge part in the success of the campaign.

If he finds his goal scoring form early. United could make a huge challenge for the title. The striker will also be aiming to bag the golden boot and help Mourinho win his first Premier League trophy at Manchester United.

This season, it is crucial both for Man United and Jose Mourinho that they make a strong, sustained challenge for title as the money invested is a relatively high amount which will no doubt increase before the of the window.

I think challenging is very much plausible with the current squad but if we’re serious about winning it, we should look to bring in a winger and full-back to add strength in depth and cover any existing weaknesses.

Big Seasons For Pogba, Mkhitaryan And Martial

The talent we have brought in plus the quality we already had in the squad can challenge but to win it. We should look to make one or two more additions.

This season could be brilliant for United with Paul Pogba now slightly more free of his defensive responsibilities. Mkhitaryan looking super sharp and creative in pre-season.

Martial aiming for a spot in the starting eleven and some top signings who will no doubt be looking to make an impact.

Reds around the world should be very much looking forward to the upcoming season as United are undoubtedly the strongest they’ve looked since Fergie’s departure.

What Are United Missing?

If United can add to the current squad we could really make a push for the title and hopefully make some strong progress in the Champions League and one of the domestic competitions.

There are a few options for Mourinho to look at in the current market especially in the areas United need.

For example. Serge Aurier could be an ideal option for the full-back role.

The Ivorian offers versatility, athleticism and aggression. All attributes Mourinho loves his players to have. He could be a brilliant defensive option with his ability to play both on the left and right side as a full-back or wing back.

Albeit the deal could prove to be a complicated one due to some legal issues. However, it is a deal definitely worth trying considering he is available for less than £30 million.

There may be less options for wingers but the quality of these players is unquestionable.

Is Bale Really An Option?

Many United fans have called for Chief Executive, Ed Woodward to make a move for Welsh superstar, Gareth Bale. This deal would also have it’s challenges as Real Madrid may demand a ridiculous fee and the player has also had more than his fair share of injuries.

On the other hand. when the 28 year old is on form and fit. He is unplayable and arguably one of the best players in the world.

He is also physically perfect for Mourinho and adds endless amounts of quality United have lacked previously.

The Final Verdict

If United can make a signing or two before the end of the window. I fully believe we can win the league especially with Jose Mourinho at the helm.

I believe Paul Pogba will have his first world class season in the Premier League and with Lukaku upfront and getting in behind. He could finally have found someone to finish the chances he creates.

If Manchester United do not bring in anymore players before the window closes. I still firmly believe they can make top three and hopefully seriously challenge for the league. As well as challenge in Europe.

I, like many reds all around the world am very excited for the start of the season and very hopeful that United will be successful in 2017/2018.
