Manchester United are rumoured to be closing in on the signing of Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton.
The midfielder is currently in discussions over his future on the South Coast, with the Saints thought to be on the verge of allowing him to leave for a fee of around £25 million.
French international Schneiderlin has been one of the stand out performers since Southampton’s return to the Premier League and was a transfer target for a number of clubs last summer.
Schneiderlin has stated that he would only leave Southampton for Champions League football which would rule out long term admirers Tottenham, but their North London rivals Arsenal are also keen on the midfielder as Arsene Wenger look to strengthen their hand for the coming season.
It is thought that United have stolen a march on the Gunners as Louis Van Gaal searches for a long term replacement for Michael Carrick in United’s midfield.
Schneiderlin certainly comes with a good track record, having played nine times for France at senior level, and would add steel to the United ranks which have times have seen lightweight against some Premier League opponents.
The Frenchman would command wages of around £120,000 a week at Old Trafford if he joined, double his current contract at Southampton.
