Romero Completes Move To Manchester United

Manchester United have finally completed the signing of Argentinian goalkeeper Sergio Romero, Romero moves to Old Trafford on a free transfer.

Romero, available on free after his contract with Italian side Sampdoria had ended. Romero has signed a three-year contract with the option to extend by a further. Playing under Louis Van Gaal again, after the pair worked together at Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.

Why Have Manchester United Signed Sergio Romero?

Some Manchester United fans may be asking why have we signed a goalkeeper? United already have David De Gea, Victor Valdes, Anders Lindegaard and Sam Johnstone all vying for a first-team spot.

Well everyone knows that David De Gea future is uncertain, with Real Madrid looking to take the Spaniard back Madrid and De Gea only has one year remaining on his United contract. While Victor Valdes looks set to be on his way out of Old Trafford. After refusing to play in some under-21 games last season.

Romero has been brought as back-up to De Gea, whilst also being someone that Van Gaal knows he can trust as his No.1, if needs be. With just over a month to go until the transfer window slams shut. We still don’t know whether De Gea will be in Manchester or Madrid come September.

Sergio is a very talented goalkeeper. He was a young keeper during my time at AZ Alkmaar and I am delighted he is joining Manchester United. He had a fantastic World Cup last summer in Brazil, although that is something I have put to the back of my mind! He will be a great addition to the team and I am looking forward to working with him once again.
