Manchester United Team News
Wayne Rooney looks set to be missing again for United, after picking up a slight hamstring strain in training on Friday. We asked about his captain after yesterday’s win, Van Gaal said he probably wouldn’t be risked against PSV but hopeful he would be fit for the weekends visit to Southampton.
In the Rooney’s absence, the big question is; who will Van Gaal play through the middle? Fellaini started there yesterday but was then used in a deeper role when Martial was introduced. After his cameo appearance and sublime first goal for the club, will Martial be given his first start.
Or will Van Gaal to play Memphis through the middle against his former side. Doing this would allow Young to come in on the left after an impressive performance as a second-half sub against Liverpool. Van Gaal may just opt to start with the same eleven, with Young and Martial returning to the bench.
PSV have made an unbeaten start to their league season, having played five games so far, they have won three and drawn two. On Saturday they won 6-0 at Cambuur, with Luuk De Jong scoring a hat-trick. De Jong is their top-scorer this season, having scored five goals. De Jong is a player the Manchester United defence will have to watch closely. He scored 26 goals last season for PSV and may be familiar to some United fans as he had a spell on loan with Newcastle United in 2013/14 season.
Another PSV player United will have to keep a close eye on is Luciano Narsingh, He is an attacking midfielder. Mainly playing on the right side, but he can also play on the left or the centre. Last season he contributed eight goals in 46 appearances for PSV. So far this season he has two goals in five league appearances and has picked up two man of the match awards. He is a Dutch international, earning 14 caps since his debut for the national side 2012.
