- First of two away games in four days for United
- Fellaini suspended after clash with Huth against Leicester
- Both teams need the three points for different reasons
Manchester United travel to Carrow Road to face a relegation threatened Norwich City team. United need three points to keep up the pressure on Manchester City in fourth place.
Following last weekends Premier League fixtures, United sit four points behind City and a win at Carrow Road will close the gap to one point with City facing Arsenal on Sunday.
If results go in United’s favour this weekend they will have the opportunity to move above City when they face West Ham United at Upton Park on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile Norwich sit in the bottom three of the Premier League, two points behind Newcastle who sit just above the relegation zone. With Aston Villa already relegated, Norwich are fighting it out with Newcastle and Sunderland to stay in the Premier League.
With the suspension of Fellaini, we likely to see one change to the starting line-up for this game. While Van Gaal hinted in his press conference that he will rotating his squad as United face three games in just over a week.
With a practically fully fit squad to choose from, Van Gaal will have a number of options in his team selections as United face two away games in the space of four days that will go a long to deciding the Dutchman’s future as United manager.
Though Van Gaal prefers to limited the number of changes he makes from match to match, this will be dictating by the recover of players in between the two games against Norwich and West Ham.
We don’t think that there will be any changes to United’s backline, with De Gea in goal behind a back four of Valencia, Smalling, Blind and Rojo.
Morgan Schneiderlin has sat out the last two games against Everton in the FA Cup and Leicester City last weekend. We believe the Frenchman is likely to return to the United midfield in place of Carrick.
Schneiderlin could be joined in a midfield three by Rooney and Mata with Schneiderlin playing a more defensive role enabling Rooney and Mata to concentrate on attacking.
The front three of Lingard, Rashford and Martial are likely to continue for this one.
Having won promotion to the Premier League last season via the Championship play-offs, Norwich are fighting to stay in the top flight.
Norwich were favourites to stay up until their defeat to Sunderland and have had to watch while both Newcastle and Sunderland have picked up points to move above them in the table.
They will need to finish above both the North-East sides if they are to welcome United to Carrow Road again next season.
Norwich enjoyed a 2-1 win they visited Old Trafford earlier in the season and a similar result on Saturday will send their fans home happy.
