With just over a week to go until the Europa League final against Ajax. Juan Mata believes United must use the last two league to approach that final in the best shape possible.
Writing in his weekly blog, the Spaniard who won the competition with Chelsea in 2013 wants United to complete the Premier League season in good form and reach the final in good shape.
Mata started yesterdays defeat to Tottenham in the final game to be played at White Hart Lane. Mata talks about the experience in his blog.
This weekend we visited a stadium that was saying goodbye to football. It was the last Premier League game at White Hart Lane. Obviously it would’ve been much better to win and be able to say that you were the last team who won there, but we couldn’t. They are always a tough and difficult opponent, and they also wanted to win the last home game of the season, of course. At least it’s been a privilege to have played this farewell match, and I’m happy that I felt good physically in another demanding game after my recovery.
After suffering successive defeats in North London, United now face a trip to Southampton and a home game against Crystal Palace before the final in Stockholm.
Mata Looks Ahead
Mata says the aim for him and his team-mates is to now win their three remaining games and he believes that if they do that it will have been a good season.
He also took time to congratulate his former side Chelsea on winning the Premier League title.
Also, I think it’s fair to congratulate Chelsea for winning the Premiership. They’ve been the most consistent team in the League and thanks to that they were able to celebrate the title last Friday after defeating West Brom, so my sincere congrats to them.
Mata will be hoping he has done enough this season to earn a start in Stockholm and help United lift the trophy and guarantee Champions League football next season.
