Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has spoken out in defence of fellow Dutchman and former manager Louis Van Gaal. Overmars has labelled those criticising Van Gaal as ‘crazy’.

Manchester United haven’t won a game since their 2-1 defeat of Watford on November 21, since then they have drawn two and lost one in the Premier League. Whilst they have suffered Champions League exit following a draw with PSV and defeat to Wolfsburg.

This run of results and the perceived boring football being played by Manchester United has seen Van Gaal coming under pressure for his job from media and fans alike.

Overmars though defended his former manager and labelled those that criticising as crazy. Overmars states that United are building a new team and the fans need to show patience in this difficult time.

In Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial, Overmars believes that United two of the top young talents in the world and given time they prove this.

Overmars said:

It’s crazy to criticise him so much already. In football you need patience. They are building a new team. Yes, they have spent a lot of money, but leave him to do his job.

He has had difficult times before in his career, but always comes through. He will survive and build a very strong team.

Martial is a player we followed very closely, since he was 16 and at Lyon. He moved to Monaco for a lot of money and will become a top, top player, we have already seen that.

Depay was fantastic in our league last season, the top scorer even though he played wide.

Van Gaal will be hoping for a reaction from his players against Norwich on Saturday.

Following successive defeats to Wolfsburg and Bournemouth United need a win and a convincing one to start convincing those doubters that Van Gaal is the right man for Manchester United.
