According to reports in Italy, Manchester United have agreed a fee with Torino for their versatile full-back Matteo Darmian. The fee is believed to be around £12million for the 25-year-old Italian international. Darmian has the ability to play all across the back-line but is at right-back where has impressed.
United are believed to have made contact with Torino over the weekend, it is rumour that Torino have already rejected two bids for Darmian before finally agreeing to Torino’s asking price of £12.7million. The Torino president Urban Cairo has said that Darmian is free to leave for Champions League football but any deal would have to be sorted before the Torino players return for pre-season training on Sunday.
Right-back is position are in need of reinforcements, having used Antonio Valencia in the position for the majority of last. Valencia did a good job in the position but right-back is not his naturally position. Meanwhile Rafael looks set to be on his way out of Old Trafford having barely featured for Louis Van Gaal’s side last season, due to injury and Van Gaal just not trusting him, because even when fit he struggled to make it into Van Gaal’s matchday squad.
Darmian started his career in the AC Milan youth set-up, but he struggled to break into the first-team at the San Siro. Following a loan spell with Padova in the 2009/10 season, he moved to Palermo for €800,000 at the beginning of the 2010/11 season. Darmian then moved to current club Torino at the start of the 2011/12 season and has made 151 appearances for Torino.
