- Luke Shaw set to make first appearance since horrific leg break
- Bailly and Mkhitaryan could also feature
Manchester United kick off their pre-season with a game against Wigan Athletic on Saturday afternoon. The game will see Mourinho take charge of United for the first time but more importantly could see the return of Luke Shaw.
Shaw hasn’t featured on a United team-sheet since suffering a horrific broken leg against PSV Eindhoven on September 15 2015.
Shaw has worked hard in his recovery from that injury and despite a return to full training towards the end of last season he wasn’t quite fit enough to feature in the final games.
Shaw will be looking for an injury free season and show why United payed £30million to Southampton for the left-back.
The game against Wigan will be United only pre-season game in the UK before heading off on their pre-season tour.
After facing Wigan, United will play Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City in China before playing Galatasaray in Sweden.
First chance to see new names
As well as seeing the return of Luke Shaw, the game against Wigan could also see new signings Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan featuring.
Bailly was Jose Mourinho’s first signing, joining from Spanish side Villarreal. While Mkhitaryan could play his first game after moving to United from Borussia Dortmund.
All United players involved Euro 2016 will not feature in this game and aren’t likely to until the end of United’s tour or maybe in Wayne Rooney’s testimonial on August 3.
Jose Mourinho has already confirmed that the three England players will go on tour but aren’t likely to feature in any of the games.
Meanwhile Zlatan Ibrahimović may make his first United appearance when they face Galatasaray in Sweden.
The match against Wigan will be shown live on MUTV. If you don’t have access to the channel will be bring you streaming links.
