  • Shaw has started his rehabilitation after horrific double leg-break
  • Van Gaal gives the England star a 50-50 chance of making the European Championships

It’s just over a month since Luke Shaw suffered the horrific double leg-break that has ruined his impressive start to the season. The injury occurred in United’s 2-1 defeat to PSV in their Champions League opener.

England defender Shaw has started his rehabilitation at Manchester United’s training ground. But United manager Van Gaal is playing down hopes that the left-back will be back playing in time for this summers European Championships.

Van Gaal has nothing but admiration for the way that Shaw has reacted to the injury. It would be easy for anyone to feel down and sorry for themselves after such an injury. Van Gaal has spoken about Shaw’s positive attitude to his rehabilitation.

Van Gaal has confirmed that Shaw has started his rehabilitation and is at the training ground every day, walking with a brace.

Shaw has a long to go in his recovery. The progress for Shaw will be steep and will eventually flatten out but he has a long way to go. It will be difficult for Shaw to maintain his positive attitude throughout this long road to full fitness.

England manager Roy Hodgson will be hoping that Shaw returns to action for united before the end of the season. No doubt a fit Luke Shaw would have one of the first names on England’s team-sheet for Euro 2016.

Van Gaal has given Shaw a 50-50 chance of making the tournament in the summer. This is because he has a chance to return to action before the end of season. But it is all dependent on how his rehabilitation goes. Shaw may encounter problems during the long road.

If there is, it wouldn’t be a first time a player encounters problems during a long rehabilitation from such a serious injury.

All Manchester United and England fans will of course be hoping that Shaw makes as speedy recovery as possible and back on the pitch before the end of the season.
