Manchester United are edging closer to the first game of their pre-season tour of the U.S. against Mexican side Club America, who in fact won their first game of the competiton, defeating San Jose Earthquakes 2-1. Club America finished second in the Mexican championship last campaign. They have however won the league the most amount of times with Twelve wins to their name, so may prove to be a difficult outfit. They play an aggressive style of football, pressuring the back line in to making costly mistakes. The Red Devils will have to watch out for number nine Dario Benedetto.
United are likely to field a lineup mixed with youth and experience. The tour will give Van Gaal a chance to experiment with the group of select players
The tour itself will give Louis van Gaal an opportunity to witness the talents of Manchester United’s four new additions: Dutch goalscoring winger Memphis Depay, full back Matteo Darmian, Midfield lynchpin Bastian Schweinsteiger and Ball-winner Morgan Schniederlin for the first time, as all four were included in the 26-man squad to take part in the tour.
The tour will be a great opportunity for Schwensteiger to gain some extra playing time; injury took toll on the World Cup winner last season, reducing him to starting only 15 league games. The three games United will take part in during the tour will also give opportunity to a variety of young talent, including the like of Sam Johnstone, Jesse Lingard and Sean Goss
Meanwhile, goalkeeper David De Gea was also confirmed as part of the tour squad, even with the ever constant linking the Spaniard to Real Madrid. Louis van Gaal however isn’t so keen on letting his world class keeper go so easily, hopefully for United fans, the competiton will act as some form of a distraction.
Likely lineup to play Club America: De Gea, Darmian, Smalling, Blackett, Shaw, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin Hererra, Mata, Depay, Rooney
