Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez left Manchester United for Bayer Leverkusen on Monday afternoon in a deal worth £7.5million. There had been speculation over the weekend that Van Gaal had told the player he was free to leave.

Hernandez joined United in the summer of 2010 for a fee believed to be in the region of £7million. When united announced the transfer, the question on many people’s lips was Javier who?

He became an instant hit with the United faithful as he scored on his competitive debut, a 3-1 victory over Chelsea in the 2010 Fa Community Shield. He enjoyed his first season in England, making 45 appearances and scoring 20 goals in all competitions, helping United with Premier League title.

Those 20 goals in his debut season, made him the first United player to achieve the feat in his debut season, since Ruud Van Nistelrooy in the 2001/02 season.

He continue to find the back of the net at regular intervals for United, scoring 12 in 36 in his second season and 18 in 36 in his third season. His third season also saw him help club with the Premier League title once again.

That season would prove to be Sir Alex Ferguson’s last in charge of United and Hernandez struggled to find his form under David Moyes and then you feel that Louis Van Gaal just didn’t fancy the Mexican. Sending him out on loan to Real Madrid last season and now allowing him to leave the club.

Hernandez has posted the message to thank the men who brought him to the club, in Sir Alex Ferguson and Jim Lawlor (chief scout). Whilst also thanking all the Manchester United supporters across the globe for their support and best wishes for the next chapter in his life.
