Manchester United started their Premier League campaign with a thumping 3-1 win over Bournemouth at Vitality stadium on Saturday.
The Red Devils handed Jose Mourinho his first win as Manchester United manager in Premier League.
Mourinho made a couple of changes to the starting eleven that played against Leicester last week at Wembley. Ander Herrera came in for Michael Carrick to form the midfield pivot with Marouane Fellaini.
Juan Mata replaced the injured Jesse Lingard on the right flank. Anthony Martial, Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimović completed the attacking quartet.
Mata, Rooney and Ibrahimović all strike
The game started at a slow pace as both the teams were organised and not allowing the opponents a sniff in the final third. United dominated possession and created half chances.
The Red Devils were sharp in the defence as they didn’t concede a single remarkable chance throughout the half.
Mata provided the first goal for Mourinho’s team when Francis played a terrible back pass which was pounced by the Spaniard. The Spaniard had his first shot saved but was able to put the ball in the net in his second attempt.
United continued their domination in the second half. The Old Trafford side got the second goal after some brilliant work frm Valencia on the right hand side.
The cross from the Ecuadorian was mishit by Martial but Rooney finished with a delicate header as the shot was straight at him.
United looked solid in possession and started opening up the Bournemouth defence.
Ibrahimovic delivered a powerful freekick which was saved equally well by Arthur Boruc.
The former PSG striker got his goal a few minutes later with a powerful strike from outside the box to triple United’s lead.
Bournemouth get late consolation
United were looking to see out the game but a lapse in concentration defence provided Bournemouth a consolation goal from Adam Smith.
The visitors were at the receiving end at the end as there were flurry of corners for the home side.
De Gea made a brilliant stop, avoiding Bournemouth from getting their second goal. United looked rusty at times but they delivered an effective performance in the first game of the season.
